Gun Control – The Good and The Bad

Being an official guns dealer can be a highly profitable business in countries with little or no gun control. However, if someone is looking to start a dealership business in a country that restricts the selling and trade of guns, there are certain points that you should consider before investing in such a business. People have argued time and again over the issue of Gun Control or restricting the free sale of firearms to the common people. Like most laws and government acts, this act too has its pros and cons. For your better understanding of the laws for the market you may soon be entering, here is a look at some of the good and bad points of gun control:

The Good:

1. Murder rates are lower in countries with strict gun control. Murders committed in a fit of anger are reduced. Even in self defense, using a gun can lead to death instead of just scaring away an offender.

2. Hundreds of people die every year by committing suicide using a gun. The mental state of a person can change after gaining a license to a gun and in cases of severe depression having a lethal weapon that can lead to a quick and painless death often ends up encouraging the person to commit suicide.

3. Thousands of reports are filed each year where someone accidentally shot themselves or someone else, either injuring or, in worse cases, killing the person. Guns cannot be handled safely all the time.

The Bad:

1. Gun control can often prevent even responsible and trained citizens from using guns as a self defense measure. This may end up hindering them from protecting not only themselves but also helping others who might need their assistance.

2. Owning guns can encourage people to bring about lifestyle and attitude changes to be able to safely own a gun.

3. Gun owners have improved sense of security and peace of mind.

Using Proper Firearm Safety

ContentIf you have firearms in your home you will want to know the best ways to keep them safe. There are a variety of ways to protect your firearms. Below you will find the ways that you can do that.

All firearms should be locked up in a safe designed for a gun or a box that locks. One of the first steps to follow in firearm safety is to keep the gun away from any individuals that do not know how to handle it. When children are in the home all precautions of firearm safety should be taken when finding a place to store the firearm. This should be a place where smaller children are out of reach of the firearm. No key or combination should be within reach of a child when a firearm is stored in a locked area.

Prior to bringing the firearm home it should be unloaded. Only load the firearm when you are at the shooting range or out on the field somewhere. Put the ammunition locked away with the gun. For added safety you could also remove the firing pin.

Any individual that is handling the gun should always treat it as if it is loaded. When handling a gun always check first to see if the gun is loaded. Always point the gun away from another person and in a direction that is safe from others. When you are ready to fire the gun then put your finger on the trigger.

If you are a gun owner for the first time consider taking a gun education class. It may even be a good idea for the whole household to be educated in gun safety. By doing this it may help prevent any accidents from occurring. If you do not feel comfortable owning a gun then consider having a stun gun for protection.

Airsoft Guns-Are they Safe for Children?

ContentOlder children may be asking their parents permission to buy a airsoft gun. They may be asking if they can attend an event for airsoft guns. This will leave the question in a parents mind whether it is safe for their child to have a airsoft gun. Is it safe for them to use it or even be near it?

A popular sport all over the world is paintball and airsoft is very similar to it. Companies will often organize airsoft events. The basic concept of the game is shooting people with the airsoft gun and capturing objectives. This is just a great way to have some fun. Companies must be approved by authorities in order to hold one of these events. They are to adhere to some strict codes to be allowed to do it.

If the correct precautions are not taken airsoft can hurt just like it does when being shot by a paintball gun. It is a good idea to wear the proper safety equipment. This would include helmets, googles, and proper padding. This is to worn at all times and will be strictly enforced during events. There is also strict rules on how far a person must be from another before the airsoft gun can be fired. It is strictly forbidden to shoot at someone’s head on purpose.

Airsoft is considered safe for children if the proper rules are followed. The airsoft gun fires small plastic rounds and if the proper helmet and goggles are worn with the body padded there will not be any impact. A adult should always be around to supervise at all times.

However, there will be an element of risk involved as with any extreme sport. A parent might be asked to sign a waiver before their child can play airsoft. This waiver shows that the parent understands the risks involved and their child is in good enough health to participate.

Parents and Guns: Keeping Your Child Safe

Parents and Guns: Keeping Your Child Safe
When a parent brings a child into the world, that person is solely responsible for the safety of the child.  This becomes even more true if the parent has a gun in the home.  A parent who is willing to learn, practice, and teach proper gun safety rules will ensure their child’s safety to a much greater extent than a parent who chooses not to.  Parents must also remember that children have very short-term memories so repetition of safety concepts is key.
Even if there is no gun present in your own home odds are high that your child will encounter a firearm at some point.  There are guns present in approximately one-half of U.S. homes and it is crucial to your child’s safety that he or she know how to respond in the event a firearm is encountered.  Parents should begin gun safety talks as soon as the child begins to show interest in guns, even the toy variety.
There is no specific way to talk to your child about firearms, but simply telling them not to touch the gun is not enough.  Such a statement will likely only stimulate their inherent curiosity.  It is better to be open and honest with your child about the harm and danger involved with guns. If your child owns a toy gun experts advise that you teach the child proper gun handling procedures as a precaution.  A small child may not know the difference between a toy and a genuine firearm if they see one in real life.
Parents should also utilize the NRA’s GunSafe Program.  This program involves four basic steps a child should know should they find a gun.  The child should stop, refrain from touching the fun, leave the area, and tell an adult.  A child familiar with this program could mean the difference between an accident averted and a tragedy.

The Importance of Gun Safety

If you are interested in shooting guns as a sport, then you should do the responsible thing by taking a gun safety class. Gun safety classes will help you avoid accidents. They can also make you a better marksman by teaching you to focus on the best ways to handle your gun.

Gun Safety Equipment

You can purchase gun safety equipment at most sporting goods stores that keep lots of different items in stock. If the store has triathlon gear and sports equipment, then they will probably have some gun safety products as well. There are three important gun safety products that you simply must have before you can consider yourself a prepared marksman: glasses, vests and ear muffs.

The glasses are important for at least two reasons. They keep the sun out of your eyes so that you can see clearly. They also protect your eyes from shells that might come out of the gun improperly. Vests should have bright neon colors and reflective tape on them. This will make you highly visible to other shooters in the area. That way, they don’t mistake you for a deer or other type of game.

Although you might not want to use ear muffs while hunting game, you should use them during practice. Ear muffs protect your ears from the damage caused by loud sounds.

Finding a Gun Safety Class

Once you have the right gun safety equipment, you are ready for a class that will teach you the best ways to use your gun safely. The National Rifle Association’s website has a list of NRA certified instructors. You can use this list to find an instructor in your area. You can also get information from your local police or sheriff department, many of which encourage gun owners to take safety classes

Protect Your Gun, Your Home and Your Family

The main reason, owners of guns have them in their homes is for protection. If an intruder invades your home and you feel that you and your family is in danger, a gun adds an extra feeling of protection. But, there is further danger with guns, if they are not cared for or kept away properly. It is critical that an owner of a gun in their home understand the safety rules that go along with housing it.

Accidents can happen. Guns can fire without any intent and this can be the cause of injuries and even fatal injuries. The most common fear about having a gun in the home is the safety with children.

It is recommended that anyone who owns a gun, whether they have children or not, keep their gun in a gun safe. Even if you do not have children, there may be a time when children in the family come to your house. Children are always wondering what is going on. They have minds that keep going with many questions to be answered. They are filled with curiosity. They are also ecstatic when it comes to holding the real thing that looks just like their toy. Gadgets are so intriguing to them and a gun is just the thing to lure in a curious child who loves to play.

They see action on television and want to recreate the adventure. It is so important that “the real thing” is kept away from them.
Gun safes are a great way to store your gun and keep it away from anyone, let alone children. Many people fear that if their gun is in a safe that they will not be able to access it quickly enough should an incident happen where they need the gun.

The good news is gun safes are made so that access to them is as easy as can be. Each gun safe will have an easy way for its owner to access and no one else. Be safe and use a gun safe.

Safety Issues with Gun Locks

Gun locks, also referred to as trigger locks are the locks that keep the trigger from going off. The intent of these locks is to keep the gun from firing in the event a child or youn inexperienced user gets a hold of the gun. They are rising in popularity, especially since so many people are carrying guns in their homes for protection. But, some people are feeling that gun locks might have a dangerous side to them.

It’s not common, but it does happen that accidental firings go off and kills someone. When it does happen, it is spread all over the news and you hear of it. But, it’s not so often that you hear of these cases. There are many more car incidents, fire accidents, and drowning accidents noted with children then there are firearm incidents.

In fact, it’s more likely that an adult will accidentally fire a gun than a child will. The cause of these accidents is largely due to substance abuse. This is where the problem with gun locks lie. They don’t prevent an adult from using the gun.
Even further than that is when an adult does need to use the gun. In an emergency case, like a burglar breaking into the home, the gun lock may stall the time it takes for the victim to protect himself. First off, most guns must be unloaded to put the gun lock on. Secondly, the time it takes to remove the gun lock and then load the gun may be valuable time that the burglar can make a real threat. Because of this delay, police officers find themselves getting to the scene when it is too late and the burglar has already committed the crime.

Gun locks are great to use as a protection against children firing the guns accidentally. But, another option is a gun safe that allows you to keep your kids from seeing the gun, but also allows you quick access to a gun that is ready to go when needed.

Eclectic Guns–Part 3

Image via Wikipedia

One of the great defining qualities of a number of 20th Century guns is cheapness. Due to wartime material shortages, or the need to produce vast amounts of weapons within a short period of time, some of the famous–or infamous– weapons of history are incredibly simple.

Sten Mk II
Cruder than even its predecessor, the Sten Mark II consisted of just a handful of parts. It carried a 32-round box magazine. The United Kingdom left much of its equipment on the beaches of Dunkirk at the start of World War II, and the Sten was the cheap, simplistic answer to a massive shortage of small arms for troops. European resistance members adored the gun because it was hidden easily, and many of the 2,000,000 made wound up in partisan hands. The Mark II had an effective range of 230 feet, and could fire up to 550 round per minute.

Fusil Mitrailleur M’15
Often known as the “Chauchat” this light machine gun deserves recognition in this article. Used primarily by France in World War I (other countries utilized it as well) the Chauchat holds the less-than-stellar title of being “the worst machine gun in history” according to numerous sources. Its rounds fed from a 20 round magazine that was a semicircle, running along the underside of the barrel. This feeding system was practically designed to allow dirt and debris into the gun, and was generally hated.

Spectre
Boasting a double-action firing mechanism (meaning the gun could be fired without cocking it first) and a blistering firing rate of 850 rounds per minute, the Spectre is a devilishly effect weapon, used almost exclusively by special forces, although the Swiss Armed Forces uses the gun as well. It maximizes its magazine capacity with the novel four-column stacking system, and is easy to conceal.

M42
The M42 was a submachine gun meant to replace the more expensive and intricate Thompson SMG. While it failed to do so, it found extensive usage and favor with Resistance groups. Rounds were fed from a 20-round box magazine, and often two were welded together to provide for quick reloading. Utilizing a selective fire option, the M42 was easy to keep clean, and could fire up to 700 rounds per minute.
